about us
History of the galleryThe büro für kunst [office for art] in Dresden represents positions of young artists. Office, because it is not only concerned with gallery work and gallery exhibitions, but also with projects in other places, exchanges, the mediation of current positions and always the permanent art work Fremder Garten«next to the gallery's premises. It all started in 1999 with the exhibition »Ich fange mit Nichts an« ['I am starting from scratch'] with very reduced materialisations. Outstanding stations of the program were in 2001 the series of paintings ‘Switchbackfliprodeo« by Sophia Schama, which she developed especially for the situation on site of the gallery. Also in 2001, American artist Janet Grau exhibited her 100-days performance installation »Devotion«. In 2002, Adam Page and Eva Hertzsch curated the group exhibition »The Remaking Of« with the topics of the interlacing of authorship and questioning content. In 2003 the gallery presented the cycle »Take Care of your Eyes« (with catalogue), among whose six singular positions the space installations »Neue Bösartigkeit« by Markus Huemer and the video work »The Prayer of PW20/LW« – both of which then went on to be displayed at the Venice Biennial – stand out. In 2004, the büro showcased Martin Borowski's second exhibition,
Inside Out, in the wake of which his works reached a broader audience. In 2005, the gallery space was temporarily taken over by Berlin-based curator Ludwig Seyfarth for his exhibition »Vokuhila – Fragen der Form«. Since 2006, the büro für kunst has been publishing catalogues to go with the exhibitions, the first of which were »Arbeiten 2006« by Peter Krauskopf, »Pictures of Pictures« by Martin Borowski and »Groove« by Sophia Schama.
